In this process, the genetic material from each parent combines, leading to genetic diversity in the offspring. The organisms involved in sexual reproduction are typically of different sexes, such as male and female. They have specialized reproductive organs that produce the gametes. Fertilization occurs when the male gamete, often called sperm, combines with the female gamete, typically referred to as an egg or ovum.
